Google Ads Recommendations is a feature that helps you improve your Google Ads campaigns by showing you recommendations based on the data in your account. You’ll see recommendations for things like:
- Bidding
- Keywords
- Ads
- Budgets
And they’ll all be tailored to your account.
It is important to keep checking back in on the recommendations tab, to ensure that you regularly discover opportunities and keep your account optimisation score in check. However always bear in mind that not every recommendation will be the right approach for your account (even if Google is suggesting it). You’ll often see suggestions such as “Your ads stopped running on your busiest days. Fixing your limited budget can help. ” – yes that’s great thanks Google, but if you are spending all you can afford, it’s no good upping your budget further.
The there is auto-apply.
You have the option to check tick boxes to help ‘maintain your ads’ and ‘grow your account’. Both of these should be reviewed carefully and is not something that should be applied and left! Out of all the options I have listed the ‘safer’ choices for automation below and everything else should be approached with caution:
- Use optimised ad rotation
- Expand your reach with Google search partners
- Remove redundant / non-serving keywords
- Add audience segments for reporting
- Bid more efficiently with …(whatever bid strategy is best for your account)
