Are you thinking about venturing into the world of Google Ads? You want to know more, you want to learn from scratch or simply brush up on the expertise you already have?
What better way to do it than to use Google directly? No grey areas in your learning process, you can take all the information you need from Google knowing its credibility and up to date.
But how I hear you say? By using Google’s very own Academy for Ads of course! All you have to do is search for Academy for ads and from there you can get started.
Create your Google account
Since you want to acquire the certification yourself, you need to pick a Google account that you wish to have your certification tied to personally. It’s a good idea to use a Gmail account or another Google account which you may have tied to any personal email account you have.
Join Google’s Academy for Ads
To avoid any confusion with logins etc, close down any other Google accounts you may have open and focus solely on this one. When on the account you are using for your certification, you need to go to https://landing.google.com/academyforads/. Next you click on ‘Get Started Now’ and you will see a mandatory terms of service you need to accept. Then you will have the option of sharing your Academy for Ads account with a company if you wish to, so you should click no.
Pass the fundamentals exam plus one other exam
So to become certified you have to pass the Ads fundamentals exam plus one of the additional exams of your choice, then you will be awarded for the specific area of whichever second exam you choose. Each area will be complete with an exam plus modules for you to work through, it’s that simple! It’s up to you which other exams you choose, you have the choice of Search, Display, Mobile, Video and Shopping.
Why stop there?
Ideally you should consider choosing the area best suited to whichever area of advertising you do or wish to, but you can work through them all if that’s something you want to do. In my opinion, if you have the opportunity to build up your skills and knowledge of Google Ads, you should! It’s free and it’s easy in the sense that you can fit it around your life and at your own pace, there are no rules to tell you when you need to complete it! If I was to be picky, and I mean really picky, the downside is that if you fail an exam you have to wait 24 hours before you can retake it, but we can all live with that, can’t we? Once certified you will have to retake the exams each year to maintain your certification too.
